An Urban Space Tailored to Ebisu

When Shake Shack’s first Japanese location, the Gaien Ichō Namiki store in Tokyo’s Aoyama, opened in November 2015, a line of approximately 400 people formed. Shake Shack is a globally popular restaurant offering 100% Angus beef burgers, frozen custard, beer, and wine.

Unlike the first Japanese store, which recreated the atmosphere of Shake Shack’s original location in New York’s Madison Square Park, the second store in Ebisu features a design that blends into the urban landscape and modern image of the neighborhood.

The interior incorporates many triangular and slanted designs, creating a three-dimensional effect. The ceiling and walls combine reclaimed cedar and yakisugi, a traditional Japanese exterior wood, to create a striking contrast. While the space is dynamic and impactful, it also incorporates Japanese elements, offering a calm ambiance befitting an upscale neighborhood.

In addition to the classic ShackBurger and SmokeShack, the menu features three limited-edition "concretes" exclusive to the Ebisu location. A wide array of appealing options are available for both lunch and afternoon tea.

The beverage selection is also robust, including ShackMeister Ale, a craft beer by Brooklyn Brewery perfect for burgers, and an expanded wine list to complement Ebisu’s evening dining scene. Japanese beers have also been added to the menu. To make it easier for patrons to stop by after work, operating hours have been extended to 10:30 PM, allowing for a relaxed authentic burger dinner.
