The first volume, "ANDO BOX The 1st Round [drawings]," featuring his drawings, will be released on Thursday, May 29th, in a limited edition of 30 copies.

A Collection of Drawings with a 1,000-Year Lifespan!

Tadao Ando has consistently challenged the concept of "space" through his architecture. Now, a portfolio collection has been created, allowing us to eternally appreciate the works of this architect and artist, who commands global attention both in Japan and internationally.

This portfolio collection utilizes the platinum print technique. This premier photographic method offers richer tonal gradations than conventional silver halide or digital prints, boasting a profound depth of true black and exceptional detail achievable only through advanced optical technology. Furthermore, by employing platinum, the most stable element known to humankind, the prints possess a remarkable durability of up to 1,000 years.

The inaugural volume, "ANDO BOX The 1st Round [drawings]," includes eight drawings. Alongside six 20x24 cm drawings—featuring iconic works such as 'Church of the Light' and 'Church on the Water'—it also incorporates sketches personally drawn by Ando, all presented within a custom-designed box.

Additionally, for the 'Nakanoshima Project II' series, two pieces were produced as platinum prints, each measuring a substantial 30x44 cm, among the largest ever created in this format.

Ando himself states, "The essence of architecture is determined in the initial sketch. A single movement of the hand dictates everything. A line drawn gains meaning only through the spatial experience felt by the body."

More than mere representations of architecture, these drawings are the culmination of lived thought processes, connecting memory to the future. The "ANDO BOX The 1st Round [drawings]" can be considered the world's smallest museum, a new creation by Ando, who has previously designed museums worldwide.
