The exhibition “U-30 Under 30 Architects exhibition 2011” proposes new spatial expressions by young talent. This exhibition, organized by the NPO Art and Architect Festa (AAF), established with the aim of “developing art and the social environment through architects,” will open on Friday, September 9th.

The seven participating architectural groups are: Masyuki Onishi (Masyuki Onishi + Yuki Momota), Kei Kaiho (Kaiho Kei Architects), Hiroshi Kato & Victoria Diemer (KATO & Victoria), Chie Konno (KONNO), Yoya Dominic Segoch (dygsa), Shingo Masuda & Katsunobu Otsubo (Shingo Masuda + Katsunobu Otsubo), and Takashi Yonezawa (HAP+associates). All are architects born in the 1980s, representing their generation and holding great promise for the future. To convey the rich expressions and values of architecture to a wide audience, the exhibition will feature drawings, videos, and experiential installations, each employing unique methods to emphasize poetic stories born between people and space, creating spaces that can only be realized by this generation.

Additionally, two commemorative symposia will be held during the exhibition period. At Symposium I on Friday, September 23rd (public holiday), Toyo Ito, a globally acclaimed architect who has received the Architectural Institute of Japan Prize and the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale, will be a guest. Alongside the seven participating architects, under the moderation of architectural historian Shunsuke Kurakata, they will explore methods and clues for thinking about the future of architecture. Symposium II, held on Saturday, September 24th, will feature five architects around the age of 40, who are leading figures in Japan and active nationwide, discussing the future direction of architecture in Japan.

The rich sensibility that can only be possessed by the young. The “U-30 Under 30 Architects exhibition 2011” promises to be an exhibition where one can glimpse the future possibilities of architecture through this fresh perspective.
