From August 23 to September 29, 2019, Hiromart Gallery in Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo, will host 'Flapping Colors,' a new solo exhibition by Hideki Tarui, who is based in Tokyo.

Following his exhibition 'Charm Point' in May 2018, Hiromart Gallery will present Hideki Tarui's second solo exhibition, 'Flapping Colors.' Tarui graduated from the Department of Oil Painting at Tama Art University in 2012. He earned his Master of Fine Arts in painting from the Graduate School of Tama Art University in 2014. He has actively showcased his work, participating in and being selected for juried exhibitions such as 'Tokyo Wonder Wall Competition Exhibition' (2010) and 'Tokyo Wonder Seed' (2014, 2016).

This exhibition features new paintings created with a focus on the theme of levity. Regarding this exhibition, artist Hideki Tarui states: "Paintings hung on a white wall give the impression of floating in space, with the thickness of the wooden frame separating the canvas from the wall. From this, I created works with the theme of flat surfaces floating in space. I chose birds and butterflies as motifs because the sight of birds and butterflies suspended in the air with their wings spread resembles a flat surface floating in the air. In my work, I abstract the spread of wings and the flapping motion through color and line, making them more planar. I hope the exhibition conveys a sense of levity."
