Expanding the World of Architecture Through Writing

Organized by AAF (NPO Art and Architect Festa), which aims to foster the development of art and the social environment through architecture, the "Architecture Lecture Series 217" is a talk session that garners significant support from students and young architects as a forum for stimulating exchange among professionals. Each session features architects Ashizawa and Hiranuma, both of the same age, alongside a distinguished guest architect, to explore the possibilities and sensibilities of architecture.

This time, the featured speaker is Osamu Ishiyama, an architect who is also active as a writer.

After completing his graduate studies in construction engineering at Waseda University in 1968, Mr. Ishiyama established his own architectural firm. His activities have extended beyond the fields of design and architecture to encompass research in distribution and media. He is also known for broadening the world of architecture through his writing, with numerous published works on the subject.

Recent activities include the construction of "Hiroshima House" within the grounds of Unnalom Pagoda in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, in 2006, and the exhibition "Dreams of Architecture—Osamu Ishiyama and 12 Stories" at the Setagaya Art Museum in 2008. In terms of writing, he has continued his ambitious endeavors, such as launching the self-published journal series "Animism Peripheral Travels" in 2009.

Mr. Ishiyama approaches architecture from multiple perspectives. We look forward to seeing how the talk session unfolds on the day.
