Works by Japanese Contributors Adorning Purple's 20-Year History

Founded in 1992 by Olivier Zahm with Ellen Fries, PURPLE FASHION MAGAZINE is a leading independent fashion publication from France. Olivier has consistently spoken of drawing inspiration from Japan. He has been captivated by traditional Japanese aesthetics, contemporary artists such as Rei Kawakubo, Takeshi Kitano, Daido Moriyama, Kaneto Shindo, and Yoko Ono, the avant-garde art scene of the 70s, and the radical yet poetic expressions of life that hold diverse and alluring perspectives on sexual desire.

Upon his first visit to Japan, he was introduced to the creative community by the late Fumihito Hayashi, editor-in-chief of DUNE, leading to the creation of various works in collaboration with fashion photographers and artists who embody contemporary Japan.

Now, 20 years after Purple's inception, to celebrate its anniversary, a retrospective exhibition will be held at Fumihito Hayashi's THE LAST GALLERY, featuring a selection of works by Japanese photographers alongside photographs of Purple's global community taken by Olivier, thus adorning Purple's 20-year history. We encourage you to visit and witness their universal value through the lens of photography.
