Architect Terunobu Fujimori Appears as Guest Speaker

The Architecture Lecture Series 217, organized by AAF (NPO Art and Architect Festa), will be held on Friday, August 31st, from 7:00 PM at Honmachi Garden City in Chuo-ku, Osaka, featuring renowned Japanese architect Terunobu Fujimori as the guest speaker.

Fujimori's Philosophy: A Dialogue on Symbiosis with Nature

This lecture series, held every two months at 7:00 PM, is moderated by architects Ryuichi Ashizawa and Takamasa Hiranuma, who are based in Osaka. Launched in 2010, the series aims to foster inspiration among young designers and create a vibrant forum for discussion, while remaining mindful of Osaka's unique regional characteristics and drawing out the originality of each guest architect.

The talk session, which delves into the artistic philosophy of architects, will feature Terunobu Fujimori, an architect active on the global stage. Fujimori is not only an architect known for his innovative approach to integrating natural materials and living plants into his designs, but also a distinguished architectural historian. In recent years, he has garnered attention for his style that fosters symbiosis with nature, exemplified by works such as "Yakusugi House" (Nagano City, Nagano Prefecture, 2007) and "Flying Mud Boat" (Chino City, Nagano Prefecture, 2010), which boldly incorporate natural elements like wood with bark intact, earth, stone, and charcoal. Other notable projects include "Dandelion House" (Kokubunji City, Tokyo, 1995) and "Nira House" (Machida City, Tokyo, 1997).
