Kishin Shinoyama Exhibition "House of Pleasure"

The legendary Kishin Shinoyama, who continues to lead Japan's photography scene at 75, opens his exhibition "House of Pleasure" at the Hara Museum in Shinagawa, Tokyo, on Saturday, September 3rd. The exhibition is drawing attention as an innovative attempt to explore new possibilities in photography, with a novel concept of displaying works shot within the Hara Museum itself.

An Aesthetic and Hypnotic World Shot with 30 Models Inside the Museum

While the "Kishin Shinoyama: Photography Power" exhibition has been touring museums nationwide since 2012, "House of Pleasure" presents a completely different concept. The theme of this exhibition is for Kishin Shinoyama to transform the Hara Museum, originally a residence completed in 1938, into a "House of Pleasure" through his lens. What exactly does this entail?

All works exhibited in this show are new pieces shot inside the Hara Museum, featuring nude photographs of 30 models. Styling wasby Tomoki Sukezanehandled by. The shooting took place during the museum's closure period for exhibition changeovers.

Shinoyama directed his camera and continuously pressed the shutter at models in various locations within the museum—empty exhibition rooms devoid of art, staircases retaining their original architectural feel, gardens overgrown with trees and scattered with fallen leaves, the normally inaccessible rooftop, and permanent exhibition spaces—capturing them as they stood, sat, lay, jumped, and leaped.

The aesthetic, otherworldly world captured by Shinoyama on film will intersect with the actual spaces where they are exhibited, offering visitors an unprecedented viewing experience.
