Explore the Roots of Pop Culture and Deepen Your Appreciation for Japanese Watches
Phillips is an auction house dealing in modern and contemporary art, design, photographs, watches, and jewelry. Primarily hosting auctions and exhibitions, it has offices in New York, London, Geneva, and Hong Kong, with representative offices across Europe, the Americas, and Asia, including Tokyo.
Currently, an exhibition is underway at its Tokyo office in Roppongi. Held concurrently with the second edition of the Tokyo Gendai art fair, these works are slated for auction in London this November.
Additionally, a select few pieces from an upcoming Japan-themed watch auction in Hong Kong this month will be previewed. The photograph collection highlights will be on display until July 16, while the watches will be exhibited until July 5 before embarking on a tour across Japan.
The photograph collection features works by seminal 20th-century artists such as Richard Avedon, Robert Mapplethorpe, Helmut Newton, Irving Penn, and Andy Warhol.
Amassed alongside a brilliant career in the fashion industry, these pieces form an iconic collection that signifies a new era in fashion and pop culture. The works, which became the wellspring of enduring culture, promise to offer new surprises and discoveries.
Also on display are timepieces from the watch auction themed around Japan, titled "TOKI (Time)". The selection includes rare watches from global luxury brands manufactured exclusively for the Japanese market, pieces previously owned by discerning Japanese collectors, and unique creations by independent Japanese watchmakers such as Naoya Tobita and Hajime Asaoka. This is not merely an auction, but a tribute to one of history's most significant watch markets.
