All are young architects born in the 1980s, representing their generation and holding great promise for the future.
This exhibition, which opened on September 9th, has only one week remaining. We have welcomed many visitors daily, and recently, on September 23rd (Fri, holiday) and 24th (Sat), we held a commemorative symposium over two consecutive days. Stimulating dialogue transcended generations.
Commemorative Symposium I
On the first day of the U-30 Commemorative Symposium I, guest architect Toyo Ito and moderator Shunsuke Kurakata (architectural historian) took the stage. In the first half of his lecture, the globally active Mr. Ito presented slides showing the past decade of the 'Sendai Mediatheque,' footage from inside the building during the Great East Japan Earthquake, and scenes from his visit to the affected areas. In the latter half, he discussed the future direction of architecture while showcasing sketches of 'Minna no Ie' (Houses for Everyone) drawn by local residents, architects from around the world, and children who will shape the future, making it a truly valuable lecture.
Commemorative Symposium II
Following Commemorative Symposium I, Commemorative Symposium II was held on Saturday, September 24th. We invited architects from the generation above the exhibitors, leading figures in Japanese architecture, to explore the future of architecture in Japan. The symposium was filled with lively discussions and was a great success. Thank you to everyone who participated for such a long time.
The 'U-30 Under 30 Architects exhibition 2011' runs until October 10th (Mon, holiday). We hope you will take this opportunity to experience the fresh appeal of the young architects who will shape the future of Japanese architecture. We eagerly await your visit!
