A High-Tech Banana Equipped with GPS
The "Wearable Banana" is used by attaching an actual edible Dole banana to the wrist, similar to a wristband.
Its functions are comparable to typical wrist-worn wearable devices, displaying the time elapsed since the start and heart rate on the banana's surface via LEDs. With its built-in GPS, it also indicates the banana replenishment stations along the marathon course.
It's said to display encouraging messages sent via Twitter with the hashtag "#wearable_banana," so runners wearing it will surely gain energy by looking at the banana during the race, and then eating it after crossing the finish line.
This Wearable Banana is likely to be a point of interest at the upcoming Tokyo Marathon 2015. A video showing its development is also featured.
