Quantic And His Combo Barbaro / Tradition In Transition
As a DJ, I'll introduce the "sounds" that catch my ear daily—or perhaps things and people that evoke a sense of sound. My hope is that music can become a more integrated part of life, much like fashion, art, or fine food and drink, serving as a catalyst to enrich our lives just a little.
Being as a DJ, I'm introducing some "Sounds" (or something or persons that I feel the "Sound" from) in here, such as fashion, art, good drink and food, I hope we can put some more music in our lives so as to make it a little bit more satisfying.

An Organic Fusion of Tradition and Innovation, Discovered by a Traveler
Hailing from the UK, DJ, musician, and producer Will Holland, better known as Quantic, is an artist who has undeniably shaped the underground soul and funk scene of the 2000s.
His dynamic output began with the debut album under the Quantic moniker, "The 5th Exotic" (2001), released on the esteemed UK label Tru Thoughts. His prolific work under various aliases, including Quantic Soul Orchestra, Limp Twins, and Flowering Inferno, showcases a deep wellspring of funk.
His international renown surged in 2007 when "Mi Swing Es Tropical" was featured in an Apple iPod commercial. Initially deeply influenced by deep funk and soul music, he sought to push his creative boundaries further by relocating to Cali, Colombia's third-largest city, a region rich in Latin and indigenous culture. Immersed in local life and interacting with its people, he absorbed significant musical and cultural influences, leading to the launch of his new project, Quantic And His Combo Barbaro (meaning 'a collective of foreigners').
Gathering talented musicians from Colombia, the UK, Brazil, India, and beyond, this album was crafted by an international ensemble. It stands as a vibrant counterpoint to the often-homogenized mainstream music scene, presenting tracks recorded with an organic spirit and profound love for music.
The album traverses exotic jazz, Afro-funk, Brazilian rhythms, and Latin funk, feeling akin to a global compilation. Yet, Will's discerning taste expertly guides the diverse elements, resulting in a cohesive and singular artistic statement.
Listening to this record evokes a sense of returning to music's essential roots. For me, it's already a masterpiece destined to be among my year's best albums, and I wholeheartedly recommend it.
It was an organic combination of tradition and revolution
where the journey man has arrived
DJ, musician and producer, Will Holland a.k.a. Quantic, is one of the main persons in the underground soul funk scene in this decade of 2000.
His dynamic presence started off in 2001 when he made his debut from Tru Thoughts label with his own album "The 5th Exotic" in England. Also known by Quantic Soul Orchestra, Limp Twins, Flowering Inferno, all these other names are just tips of the iceberg of his productions. Especially in 2007, he became worldiwide when his track "Mi Swing Es Tropical" was used in the iPod CM.
He was heavily influenced by deep funk and soul music but to expand his creation in music he moved to Cali, the third biggest city in Columbia. There he lived his life and communicated with locals, he gained influences by music and culture, and created his own new unit Quantic And His Combo Barbaro(means a collective of foreigners). With local musicians and talented artists from England, Brazil and India, participated to create this album.
As if to object the mainstream of current music scene which seems too flat, this album is filled with organic love to the music.
It's almost like a compilation album beyond borders and genres, this album includes variety of music such as exotic jazz, afro, brazil, latin funk...
However, with Will's taste, it has been directed well as one album.
While listening to this album, it made me feel that music could go back where it supposed to be. I think that this will be one of my best albums of the year.
