Afro Blue: 30 Years On

Dee Dee Bridgewater / Red Earth
(Emarcy / Universal)

Dee Dee Bridgewater has been a leading female jazz vocalist since her debut in 1974. About ten years ago, I had the opportunity to record with her when I was part of the group U.F.O. I still cherish the memory of being deeply moved by her overwhelming presence, powerful vocals, and open-minded approach.

This album was born from her regular visits to Africa after being appointed a goodwill ambassador for the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations). Deeply inspired by the music of Mali during these trips, she collaborated with local musicians to create this remarkable work.

From her signature song "Afro Blue" to Wayne Shorter's "Footprints," all the bluesy, down-to-earth tracks hit the mark.
Above all, the album is brimming with a vibrant energy that suggests she thoroughly enjoyed the sessions.
Coming soon.
