More Reds for the Super Seven (1): The Brisk Gale Edition
Red That Suits the Super Seven (Part 1)
The "Smooth Sailing" Edition
Masafumi Suzuki x Kaneyoshi Kondo (L&KONDO)
This spring, designer Kaneyoshi Kondo of L&KONDO presented Suzuki with a vibrant red leather blouson from the "Baroque Rouge Series." On a clear day after the rainy season, we visited the L&KONDO showroom again, with Suzuki at the wheel of his beloved Super Seven.

Suzuki, has the leather softened nicely?
Kaneyoshi KondoHave you been wearing it since then?
Masafumi SuzukiYes, thank you. I often finish work and leave the editorial department at midnight or 1 AM, or sometimes early in the morning, so a jacket or leather jacket is essential even in summer. If it's too hot during the day, I can just take it off, so it's very useful. It's just right.
KondoIf you feel hot during the day, make good use of the ventilation. The perceived temperature changes quite a bit when air flows through.
SuzukiThe leather has also broken in nicely.
KondoIs the ride of the Super Seven as you imagined, Suzuki?
SuzukiYes, it's fun.
KondoWhat do you do on rainy days?
SuzukiI check the weather forecast in the morning, and if it looks like rain, I generally don't drive it. The soft top is a hassle, and while there's a tonneau cover for rain protection, water inevitably seeps into the seat fabric. So, I'm thinking of changing the seats to red FRP soon.
KondoWon't FRP make your back and hips hurt?
SuzukiI can drive to Hakone without any problems, so I think it will be fine.
KondoYou currently own a Super Seven and a Bentley, correct?
SuzukiThe Bentley is being repaired. I'd like to get an air-cooled 911 Cabriolet for rainy days. That one has a power top, right? The 964 model Cabriolet isn't very popular, so you can find them used for around 3 million yen.
KondoThat's right.
SuzukiWhat are you driving now, Kondo?
KondoI have a yellow 997. I'm planning to customize it little by little. I've made the wheels black for a sportier look, the soft top is gray, and next I want to change the black seats. Black seats can get quite hot.

L&KONDO Exhibition Theme: "Dubai"
KondoI was planning to have a show this March, so I went to Dubai in December, which I'd been interested in for a while. The show didn't end up happening, but the exhibition starting July 20th will have a theme inspired by the luxurious image of Dubai.
SuzukiAn entire small island is a theme park, and Dubai is also gaining attention as a resort destination. What were your impressions when you visited?
KondoIt was interesting. There's still a lot of desert left, and it's still under development.
SuzukiWhat do people do there when they visit Dubai?
KondoThings like going to the beach, playing golf, or going on a horse safari in the desert.
SuzukiThere are factories in Dubai, and a circuit in Bahrain. It must be the end of the oil era.
KondoThey say the oil reserves in Dubai will last about 10 more years.
SuzukiCountries in the Middle East with relatively stable politics are seriously pursuing a post-oil strategy.
KondoThis is a tourism policy in response to that.
SuzukiAccording to the "oil peak" theory, global oil reserves will only decrease from now on, and humanity itself must move away from oil. Dubai is taking early action.
