You'll Only Get Better from Here
KatsuuraThank you for your time today. I finally got my license at the end of last year. That's why I really wanted to ask Editor-in-Chief Suzuki about cars, and Porsches in particular...
SuzukiI often see you at fashion brand parties, Ms. Katsuura, but if you don't mind me asking, how old are you?
KatsuuraI'm 32.
SuzukiI thought you were much younger. By the way, it's quite late to get your license, isn't it?
KatsuuraI hadn't really felt close to driving until now. It took me two months to get my license (laughs).
SuzukiHow many tries did it take you to pass the provisional license test?
KatsuuraI passed on the first try.
SuzukiThat's impressive. I failed the provisional test three times. That really shook my confidence (laughs).
KatsuuraDid you get yours when you were in college, Mr. Suzuki?
SuzukiNo, no, I was about 27 or 28 then.
KatsuuraReally!
SuzukiSo, you're not much younger than I was when I got mine. That gives you hope, doesn't it? (laughs) You'll only get better at driving from here on. So, did you buy a car?
KatsuuraThe thing is, I really want a Porsche, but all my friends are trying to stop me, saying, "That's not a car to start with."

Buy a Forgettable Car...
SuzukiIt's perfectly fine to start with a Porsche. No problem at all. I bought mine before my license even arrived.
KatsuuraWhat did you buy?
SuzukiI'd rather not say (laughs), but it was a Corolla. I didn't want to, but people around me kept saying things like, "You're going to scratch it anyway," or "You're a bad driver," and they discouraged me from buying a nice car.
KatsuuraI see (laughs).
SuzukiBut that's none of their business. People who give that kind of advice often end up buying a forgettable car and becoming forgettable drivers themselves.
KatsuuraI understand.
SuzukiYoung and beautiful women like you, Ms. Katsuura, should drive a Porsche. If you don't start driving soon, your skills might get rusty. What are you driving now?
KatsuuraOn weekends, I borrow my friend's BMW 3 Series convertible and drive it.
SuzukiYou're fortunate. The 3 Series is a great car. Do you feel confident driving?
KatsuuraEveryone is kind and lets me pass, but I get scared when buses or trucks come towards me.
SuzukiIt's okay to scratch it a little; it's just a car. Don't babies fall down many times as they grow? They learn various things by falling.
Editor KajiiIt's someone else's car, though (laughs).
SuzukiIf a friend would disown you for scratching their car, they weren't a true friend to begin with. Don't scratch it on purpose, of course (laughs), but all things in creation eventually break.
