Design Competition for Glass Architecture by Seven Young Architects: Public Judging

AAF is pleased to announce the "Glass Architecture Competition," a design competition for glass architecture, in collaboration with AGC Asahi Glass. Seven emerging architects under the age of 30 have been invited to submit proposals.

New Proposals for Glass Architecture by Emerging Architects

This competition, themed "Glass Architecture with Diverse Light," invites seven promising architects under 30 to propose new ways of using and expressing glass as a material.

Glass, with its unique properties as a hard, transparent material, plays an indispensable role in contemporary architecture. It protects people from elements like temperature, humidity, and noise, while simultaneously allowing light to flood interior spaces and offering clear views of the outside world. The futuristic spaces it creates, both enclosed and transparent, possess a power to evoke a sense of freshness and wonder.

The public judging for this competition will be held at "AGC Studio," designed by architect Kumiko Inui, on October 13 (Thursday) from 5:30 PM. We invite you to pay close attention to the innovative proposals for glass architecture from these emerging talents.

Hiroshi Ota
Architect / Lecturer at the Institute of Industrial Science, The University of Tokyo

Born in Tokyo in 1968. Established Design-Neuf in 2000. Served as a project researcher at the International Center for Urban and Regional Studies, The University of Tokyo, from 2003 to 2008, and has held his current position since 2009. His research focuses on urban regeneration cases worldwide from the perspective of architectural and public space configuration. His editorial and writing projects include "SD May 1999 Issue: Provocative Materiality," "INVISIBLE FLOW: Energy-Saving Architecture Guide," and "10+1 #31 Compact City Study." Notable works include "DUET" and "Guest House in Kugayama," and the video work "PopulouSCAPE." He has co-directed the Tokyo Picnic Club since 2002.

Kohki Hiranuma
Architect / Principal of Kohki Hiranuma Architects

Born in Osaka Prefecture in 1971. After moving to the UK to attend the AA School (London), he established Hs WorkShop-ASIA (now Kohki Hiranuma Architects) in 1999. His representative works include the detached single house "House of Time" and the environmentally conscious building "Environmental Building for the University of Tokyo" designed for the university. He has received numerous awards both domestically and internationally, including the Architectural Institute of Japan Prize, the Innovative Architecture Award (Italy), and the Grand Design International Architecture Award (UK).
