Popular Shinjuku Cafe Opens Second Location in Hakata

Brooklyn Parlor HAKATA

Consistently packed on weekdays and weekends alike, with patrons queuing for seats during peak weekend hours, the immensely popular cafe "Brooklyn Parlor" opened its second location in Hakata this April. Kanako Sasaki, who handles public relations for Brooklyn Parlor, guides us through the new establishment.

Inspired by Brooklyn, New York

Cross the East River from Manhattan, and you'll find Brooklyn. Here, a relaxed pace of life unfolds, distinct from the bustling skyscrapers. It's a place of delicious diners and a nurturing ground for countless artists, possessing a broad embrace that welcomes diversity.

Inspired by this very spirit of Brooklyn, Brooklyn Parlor opened in Shinjuku in 2009 as a "space" where one could freely and leisurely enjoy "food," "music," and "books"—a cafe where diverse cultures intersect. Shinjuku, a melting pot of business districts, entertainment hubs, and department stores, where various cultures and generations mingle, evokes a certain Brooklyn-esque atmosphere.

And so, in April 2012, seeking a space that embraces all things with both receptiveness and creativity, Brooklyn Parlor has arrived in Hakata. In Fukuoka, a city that has given birth to many musicians and artists, Brooklyn Parlor is poised to spark new chemical reactions.

A Delayed Elegance

The Hakata location boasts over 1,000 books. While bookstores typically arrange titles by genre—literature, economics, art, business—Brooklyn Parlor curates its collection around uniquely conceived themes. Books from vastly different genres sit side-by-side, fostering fresh and unexpected encounters. You can read books at your table or purchase them.

In an era that prizes instant gratification and efficiency above all, Brooklyn Parlor cherishes the slow-burning joy of culture. You won't find books here promising "lose 10kg by reading this!" Instead, you'll discover titles that offer a subtle, lingering impact.Such books await you.

Everyday, Yet High-Quality Cuisine

Brooklyn is a crossroads of many races and cultures. Reflecting the diverse populace, its food culture is equally varied; even staples like burgers and sandwiches are uniquely Brooklyn-style. With the chef's dedication and skilled execution, the menu offers dishes that are both everyday fare and of high quality, certainly satisfying and filling.

Take, for example, the substantial Brooklyn Burger, generously seasoned and packed with a satisfying texture and rich flavor, sandwiched between fresh vegetables and artisanal bread. And Brooklyn Lager, a favorite among New Yorkers, makes its Hakata debut. This beer, crafted with time and care, is characterized by its rich bitterness, aroma, and refreshing taste. Furthermore, all dishes pair exceptionally well with beer.

Before Prohibition, Brooklyn was a mecca for beer brewing. In 1988, BROOKLYN BREWERY began production with the aspiration to "revive the authentic taste through traditional methods." Produced in small batches and taking twice the usual time for fermentation and brewing, it is the craft beer most beloved by New Yorkers.

A 2.6 x 4m Mural by Artist Keiji Ito

Dominating the front interior is a mural by artist Keiji Ito, measuring 2.6 meters high and 4 meters wide. It's a work that adds texture to a festive visual collage and crossover imagery, creating a sense of depth. Ito poured his wishes into its creation, hoping it would enhance the enjoyment and satisfaction of dining and drinking within this space.
