Special Content Site "OUTSIDE CHANEL" Launched

A New Project from Chanel. Starting in Japan.

As a way to express the spirit of Chanel, the special content site "OUTSIDE CHANEL" has been launched today. Through documentaries of women filmed in Japan and around the world, the spirit and elegance that lives within Chanel are conveyed.

First Film in the Series Set in Japan

"OUTSIDE CHANEL" has been launched in parallel with "INSIDE CHANEL," which focuses on the life of Gabrielle Chanel and Chanel's icons. This is a site that introduces documentary films shot in various countries around the world. The featured women are active in diverse fields such as art, music, and business. And Japan has been chosen as the setting for the first documentary. It features five Japanese women earnestly discussing their work, their way of life, and at times, their elegance.

What makes "OUTSIDE CHANEL" unique is its approach. Despite being a Chanel site, it features no Chanel jackets, bags, jewelry, or even cosmetics. However, through the flexibility, boldness, courage, passion, and creativity of the women featured in the documentaries, it depicts the life and philosophy of Gabrielle Chanel.

"CHANEL is an idea" The Innovative Life of Gabrielle

For example, Washi artist Eriko Horiki speaks about her work:
"I try to do things that artisans say cannot be done, without thinking they are impossible. Through these efforts, I have created something new in the world of Washi, which people call innovation. Therefore, ignorance, not knowing, or not understanding, can conversely give us courage and sometimes lead to bold results."

In the world of Washi, where traditional methods are highly valued, she creates her work freely, unbound by convention. Challenging established notions and pursuing one's own identity is not limited to artists; it resonates with Gabrielle Chanel and with us all. And the elegance that Chanel envisions, both in the past and present, resides in the strong convictions of women.

The words of Karl Lagerfeld, shown in a title card at the beginning of the documentary, capture the essence of this project.
This is the essence of the project.
