A Shop That Re-examines the Essence of Selection

New Staples Begin at JOURNAL STANDARD Omotesando

JOURNAL STANDARD Omotesando, with its concept of an "antenna shop exploring new standards," curates not only established brands but also those poised for widespread recognition and enduring popularity from around the globe. This series, "JOURNAL STANDARD's New Axis," delivered weekly, offers a unique OPENERS perspective on its allure.

The theme for the Spring/Summer 2015 menswear collection is "INFORMAL LIGHTNESS," and for womenswear, it's "SWEET RELATIONS." This time, we feature three brands: "GITMAN Bros.," "COVERT," and "Colenimo."

The Popular Semi-Order Event Returns This Spring

GITMAN BROS.

GITMAN BROS. is a shirt manufacturer founded in northern Pennsylvania, USA, in 1978. Still committed to Made in U.S.A., they are also known for producing shirts for brands like "Thom Browne."

To commemorate the 7th season of "GITMAN Bros. × JOURNAL STANDARD" this spring/summer, a semi-custom order event will be held for four days only at JOURNAL STANDARD Omotesando and Shinsaibashi.

Over 70 types of fabrics are available, including the classic Oxford. This time, for the first time, three types of long-sleeved "crazy shirts" will be offered. Additionally, as special items, jackets in four fabric types will be available for men, and shirt dresses for women. You can also customize regular long- and short-sleeved shirts, choosing collar style, sleeve length, and size, as well as shorts, pocket squares, and hats for both men and women. Orders are expected to be completed approximately two months after placement, with jackets ready around August.

On March 20th (Friday), a reception party will be held at JOURNAL STANDARD Omotesando, and on March 26th (Thursday), at Shinsaibashi, Osaka, with Chris Olberding, the director of GITMAN BROS.

A Mysterious New Brand with a Secret Designer!?

COVERT

COVERT offers stylish items, including big silhouettes and pieces incorporating trendy '90s tastes. This brand, which launched this spring/summer season, is one to watch, though little is known about it beyond its Italian production.

It is said that the designers are three individuals with experience at popular maisons, but they currently belong to other brands and have not revealed their identities. They also wish to be evaluated purely on the strength of their products, rather than by the names of designers or brands. Thus, the brand was named COVERT, meaning "to hide."

Stepping away from the surrounding environment of the fashion industry, they return to the origin of manufacturing: "creating good products." Their approach is evident in their clothing, which makes no compromises in pattern, detail, or material, aiming to sell based solely on the product's appeal.

This brand, sold without PR activities only in stores that wish to carry it, is now creating a buzz through word-of-mouth, primarily in Europe. We encourage you to experience the true charm of these products at JOURNAL STANDARD Omotesando.

Creations from London by a Japanese Designer

Colenimo

Designer Aya Nakagawa studied fashion design in Japan while also working as a professional musician. She then moved to the UK in 2004 and launched her own brand, "Colenimo," three years later.

Aiming to create high-quality products that are timeless while incorporating a modern sensibility into vintage aesthetics, she finds beloved fabrics in antique markets and meticulously finishes each item in cooperation with artisans. Due to the frequent use of rare materials, the brand is exclusively available at a limited number of select shops.

For the Spring/Summer 2015 season, she presents a collection inspired by Osa Johnson, an explorer and filmmaker.

The designs, which capture the practicality and chic, understated elegance that Osa, who lived in the savanna and filmed unknown countries and animals while also gracing red carpets, might have sought, achieve a remarkable coexistence of opposites: masculine and feminine, old and new.
