Quilting, Lace, and Suede with Fringe: A New World Rooted in Britain

The Autumn/Winter 2015-16 ready-to-wear collections have begun. Our first report comes from London, with the Burberry Prorsum collection.

The venue, a departure from last season's colorful hand-painted designs, exudes a chic atmosphere. Monotone mosaics adorn the floor, while the walls are draped in heavy, beige velvet curtains. As the stage curtains part, the powerful yet warm voice of British singer-songwriter Clare Maguire fills the space, her soulful covers enhancing the collection's mood.

A series of pattern-on-pattern bohemian styles emerged, featuring dark jacquards pieced together with sashiko-like patchwork. Alongside the poncho capes presented last season, trench coats also embraced patchwork. The techniques of traditional British Durham quilting were combined with suede, animal prints, and camouflage, resulting in a distinctly modern aesthetic. The pairing of quilting and animal prints is particularly striking!

Beneath the ponchos, tiny patchwork suede trousers were paired with fringed, studded patchwork booties.

Dresses featured feminine silhouettes with black trim accentuating the waist. A fringed bucket bag added a sense of freedom. This one-handled bag, available in various materials, looks set to be a popular item early on.
