What inspired you to choose this profession?

My career in beauty began with cosmetic sales, but during my time at Shu Uemura, I realized that a proper foundation was essential for creating beautiful makeup, which led me to become an esthetician. I have now been in this field for 25 years.

My interest in beauty likely stemmed from my childhood visits to the hair salon with my grandmother. They always had beautiful red and coral-colored nail polishes. I would always paint my grandmother's nails while she was getting her hair cut. Even as a child, I must have felt something special about making people beautiful. I often recall those moments lately.

──What are your specialty or preferred styles?

I prefer facial treatments over body treatments. There are many acupressure points around the face, and simply massaging them or stimulating lymphatic flow can relieve bodily discomfort and reduce swelling, offering effects comparable to body massages.

──Do you have a motto or any particular considerations when you work?

I am constantly mindful of the support I receive from those around me and, therefore, never forget to be grateful for everything. I also ensure thorough preparation for smooth customer service and treatments. And, of course, the all-hand treatment. By feeling the skin, I can avoid over-treating or under-treating, always providing the best possible service.

uka: The Place with the Most Happiness in the World

──What is the happiest episode you've experienced so far?

It's when I hear from clients who received the Kerasquin Emulsion esthetic treatment that their own family members, such as their husbands or daughters, have complimented their skin. They all say, 'Did you do something to your skin?' The words of loved ones are the most genuine (laughs).

──Could you tell us about any favorite cosmetics, beauty devices, or tools you use?

Currently, my favorite is 'Kerasquin' (a salon-exclusive skincare brand). I've experienced many cosmetics, but none have made me feel 'my skin has changed' as much as Kerasquin. It's my number one.

──What has moved you recently (or what books, movies, etc. have moved you)?

It wasn't that recent, but Lily Franky's 'Tokyo Tower' deeply moved me. When the book was published, my mother had just passed away after a battle with illness, and as we are both from Kyushu, I couldn't stop crying with each page I turned in the latter half of the book. Even now, I feel tears welling up when I recall it.

──What is the appeal of uka?

I believe it's 'the place with the most happiness in the world' for both customers and staff.

──What is the appeal of Kiho Watanabe?

In a word, she is a professional. She is straightforward about everything, and her approach is not 'I can't do it,' but rather 'Let's try it first!'

──What are the selling points of the Aoyama store?

Among all the salons, I think it's the most relaxed. It's also appealing because it's the only one with an esthetic cabin. I believe it's a salon where we can offer a comforting touch to everyone who visits.

──Finally, could you tell us your goals for this year?

I aim to provide techniques and service that not only improve the skin but also enhance facial expressiveness. I also hope to have as many people as possible experience the Kerasquin Emulsion esthetic treatment. In that sense, this project is a great opportunity. We look forward to welcoming you.
