A journey from Monsieur Dior's era to the present
This exhibition explores the imaginative world of Christian Dior, who was familiar with Japanese culture from a young age, his interactions with artists of his generation, the style he created through his unparalleled collections, his passion for grand balls, and his remarkable sensibility for bringing happiness to women. It traces his creations from the past to the present day.
Divided into 12 keywords symbolizing the Dior spirit, such as "Dior and Artists" and "Dior's Grand Balls," the exhibition showcases the brand's allure from multiple perspectives through archival dresses, photographs by Patrick Demarchelier (who has long photographed Dior), and films. Demonstrations by artisans in various fields, including clothing, embroidery, bags, and perfume bottles, will also take place at the venue.
Under "Allure Dior," we delve into the birth of Dior's legendary "New Look." "Dior and Japan" unravels the history of a special connection with Japan, a country that has been a passion for him since childhood. Other keywords include "Dior's Atelier," where you can learn about the creation process of haute couture dresses; "Paris," the city that inspired Monsieur Dior; and "Stars in Dior," featuring celebrities from Marlene Dietrich to Jennifer Lawrence.
Furthermore, while the haute couture ateliers are described as akin to a wizard's cave, the exhibition also focuses on perfume, presenting it as an enchanting world of allure.
Even looking back now, its elegance and splendor remain undiminished, and Monsieur Dior's remarkable foresight is astonishing. This exhibition, which comprehensively covers the brand's creations from its inception to the present day, supported by the talent of successor Raf Simons, is a must-see.
