Slightly Irregular Pearls Transformed into Exquisite, Individual Jewelry

Uwajima City in Ehime Prefecture is one of Japan's foremost pearl-producing regions, renowned for its beautiful pearls cultivated through excellent farming techniques and a favorable environment. While many of these pearls are distributed through cooperatives, those that fall outside the standard criteria often remain with the producers.

These pearls, deemed non-standard due to slight irregularities in shape or color variations, possess a rich individuality and natural charm. This exhibition focuses on these non-standard pearls. Under the curation of "Galerie de Poisson," a gallery specializing in jewelry that opened in Ebisu in 2003, "Doi Pearl" from Uwajima has provided these non-standard pearls. Sixteen jewelry brands will present new creations using these unique, one-of-a-kind pearls.

DAN TOMIMATSU has created a necklace designed to minimally alter the pearl, highlighting the characteristics of untreated, unadjusted pearls. Additionally, brands such as "KARAFURU" and "tortue" have drawn inspiration from the unique shapes and beauty of these non-standard pearls to craft distinctive pieces that fully accentuate their individual allure.
