From Royal Gunsmith to Leather Goods Maison
This opening at Hankyu Umeda Main Store marks the brand's third location outside of France, following its flagship store on Rue Cambon in Paris and the Galeries Lafayette.
With a history spanning nearly 300 years, FAURE LE PAGE originally served as a gunsmith to French royalty and nobility, crafting firearms for Louis XVI and sabers for Napoleon. It later transitioned to creating leather goods such as hunting gun cases, boot cases, and game bags. In 2012, the brand was relaunched as a bag and leather goods maison.
The collection ranges from handbags and tote bags that echo the classic styles of the era, such as ammunition pouches and various sized duffel bags, to whimsical pistol-shaped pouches inspired by weaponry. The brand, which evolved from a royal gunsmith to a coveted luxury maison captivating Parisian women, is finally making its debut in Japan.
The brand's signature is the "Écailles" (scale pattern) toile. This pattern, consistently used for the relief and decoration of the maison's weaponry, is crafted on cotton canvas through a meticulous seven-step process involving silk-screening, waxing, and graining. This artisanal technique results in a fabric that is both highly durable and exquisitely fine, developing a unique patina with use.
