Denim That Offers Children Educational Opportunities and Frees Women from Hauling Water

People Tree has a history of collaborations with various brands and designers. Their latest partner is the renowned global denim brand, "Lee." For this collaboration, the raw cotton used was grown by small-scale farmers in India, supported by "Agrocel," a People Tree producer partner, and is GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified. The production is carried out in Lee's Japanese denim factories.

Cotton cultivation, even today, is largely a manual process from sowing to harvesting, without reliance on machinery. By growing cotton on fertile plateaus without pesticides or chemical fertilizers, the "health" of both the farmers and the planet is protected. Furthermore, the fair trade premium enables support for regional development, such as the establishment of primary schools and the improvement of water facilities, contributing to the farmers' improved livelihoods.



The lineup includes three styles: high-waisted skinny jeans and a pencil skirt for women, and tapered jeans for men. They are available in two colors each: indigo blue and black. Sales will begin in September 2014. The collection will be available at People Tree's directly managed stores, through mail order, and at Lee's directly managed stores.

These collaboration jeans with Lee are expected to help free women in India from the long hours and strenuous labor of hauling water, and provide children with opportunities for education. We eagerly await the release of these stylish items that will surely bring smiles to many.
