Smoky Pastels and Handprints: A Collection of Strength and Gentleness
This is the Autumn/Winter 2014-15 London Collection.BurberryAn invitation arrived from Burberry Prorsum, featuring a pop-up book style cutout of London symbols like London Bridge and Big Ben. Was this the theme? Yes, Burberry Prorsum is within these symbols.
The show began at 2 PM. The collection featured beige with blue, green with pink – all in smoky winter pastels. A succession of floral and graphic prints bloomed across the garments, rendered in a childlike, hand-painted style. Flowing skirts with prints were paired with sharp trench coats or shearling, and large scarves cascaded down. Lace-up booties and wide sash belts were also individually hand-painted.
The gentle silk dresses were inspired by classic tea dresses. With elements like bow ties and high waists, classic British style was modernized with scarves and belts. The finale featured blanket capes with embroidered initials. The theme was "Bloomsbury Girls," reviving the interior design of Charleston Farmhouse, the hub of an early 20th-century British artist collective.
