Dresses That Flutter Like Flowers
The Spring/Summer 2014 Haute Couture collection began with Dior's delicate white creations. The venue, inspired by 1960s couture salons, was smaller than usual, with an interior composed of connected white cubes. It was designed so that every seat offered a clear view of the pieces. Dresses made of layered silk organza featured voluminous, asymmetrical hemlines that swayed with every step. The train cascading down the back gently billowed as if catching the wind.
The seemingly weightless dresses, poised as if to take flight, held deep layers of couture technique. Overlapping organza was cut and meticulously shaped like petals, adorned with beads. Pearls were hidden within the open petals. This offered a sense of personal luxury. "I wanted the theme to be the emotional experience that couture provides," said Artistic Director Raf Simons. The accompanying shoes were 3D designs with studs, featuring silver leather anklets that extended to the knees.
A collection that concealed technique within and showcased a three-dimensional style. It was a captivating 20 minutes immersed in Raf Simons' unique world of modern couture.
