From Sunlight to the Darkest Glow: This Spring, Shine!
The venue for the Paris Ready-to-Wear Autumn/Winter 2013-14 collections shifted from the warehouse-lined 13th arrondissement to Trocadéro (8th arrondissement), offering views of the Eiffel Tower.
Dries Van Noten created an exceptionally long runway, 80 meters from side to side, with models walking back and forth before the audience. The first look featured a skirt crafted from gold fabric, draped and waved into a large motif that shimmered with dazzling light as it moved. Beneath it, however, was a matte sheeting cotton. Dries Van Noten explained that he wanted to capture the essence of natural light. The finale presented dresses adorned with motifs of flowers blooming in darkness. All the models lined up, allowing for a close, deliberate viewing. The couture techniques were executed with a modern, airy lightness.
Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci utilized several circular stages within the same venue. Fiery colors like black, brown, and orange defined the tribal-inspired dresses. Draped to sculpt the body, the dresses featured flowing pleats, with satin ribbons and sequins adding a luminous touch. The flat sandals felt refreshingly modern.
