Copy, Copy! Beyond Previous Collaborations
The 19-piece capsule collection is inspired by the kaleidoscopic prints found on counterfeit Versace items that M.I.A. discovered in London markets during her teenage years. By boldly mixing Versace's signature icons like the Medusa and Greca patterns, it creates graphical prints with a street energy. The collection includes T-shirts, printed denim, silk shirts, jersey dresses, and military outerwear. It is available for both men and women.
The campaign images feature M.I.A. and her friends as models, shot by Mexican photographer Jaime Martinez in a London market. A special camera capable of capturing multi-images was used, and GIF animations were also created using these photographs.
Donatella Versace commented on this collaboration: "I've always been interested in street culture, so when M.I.A. proposed creating a collection inspired by counterfeit Versace items, I thought it was a brilliant idea. This collection embodies all the elements of the new VERSUS VERSACE."
M.I.A. said, "The topic of people making and selling fakes has always been a part of M.I.A.'s culture. I wanted to create a new cycle where the copier is copied by Versace copying the fakes."
M.I.A. is scheduled to release her new album "Matangi" on Tuesday, November 5.
