Officially Registered with the Scottish Register of Tartans

This shopping bag, featuring a bold and eye-catching pattern, was created around 1958, following the opening of the teenager's shop at Isetan Shinjuku Store in 1956. It was later adopted throughout the store and eventually became synonymous with Isetan.

In the autumn of 2012, Isetan received the world's first "Tartan Award" in the "Packaging" category for its long-standing contributions to tartan promotion in Japan. Inspired by this recognition, a new original fabric was woven and a new tartan was created. This became "MacMillan/Isetan," which was officially registered with the "Scottish Register of Tartans," managed by Scotland to oversee tartans worldwide.





To commemorate this renewal, the event "ISETAN TARTAN: My Treasure Box" will be held from Wednesday, October 30th to Tuesday, November 5th, at The Stage, 1st Floor, Main Building, Shinjuku Store. In addition to Scottish brands with strong ties to tartan checks, such as "Mackintosh" and "Queene and Belle," various popular brands and designers will present special limited-edition items crafted with the new "MacMillan/Isetan" tartan.

A diverse range of new tartan items will be available, from bags and one-of-a-kind stuffed animals to furniture and stationery. The fabrics used are from "Lochcarron of Scotland," the world's leading tartan manufacturer. The art direction for the stage decoration will be handled by "Smiles Laboratory."
