Over 70 Dresses on Display
The "Impressions Dior" exhibition, running until Sunday, September 22nd, explores the enduring link between the Dior Maison and the Impressionist movement. It brings together early creations by Monsieur Dior from 1947 to 1957, alongside works by his successors. Precious Impressionist masterpieces on loan from institutions like the Musée d'Orsay in Paris, including works by Monet, Degas, and Renoir, are displayed alongside more than 70 dresses, inviting visitors to discover their shared narrative.
This exhibition highlights how the environment of Granville, where Monsieur Dior spent his childhood, reflects the landscapes sought by Impressionist artists and profoundly influenced his own creative output.
Monsieur Dior's "New Look" in 1947 embodied the idea of dressing the "flower-like woman," with its revolutionary silhouette inspired by the form of flowers and stems. Dior and his successors reinterpreted fashion from the Impressionist era, presenting pieces that drew new charm from styles such as the full crinoline dresses reminiscent of Claude Monet's "Luncheon on the Grass" and the bustle dresses worn by women in Georges Seurat's "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte."

The exhibition concludes with a display of garments by successive artistic directors, each incorporating the work of their favorite painters into couture designs, paying homage to the Impressionist masters.
A catalogue for "Impressions Dior," curated by fashion historian Florence Müller, has also been published. It further explores the connections between Impressionist art and haute couture.
This exhibition, which juxtaposes paintings and their corresponding dresses to unravel their shared connections, offers a unique perspective from which to appreciate Dior's couture creations throughout the ages.
