An Unexpected, Unimaginable Pairing!
It's common for collection brands to collaborate with artists for their shows. Junya Watanabe, who presented his collection in March, teamed up with Loewe. The mastermind behind this was Loewe's Creative Director, Stuart Vevers. This is a collaboration between designer brands.
The collection featured Junya's signature rider's jackets as a base for dresses and coats, styled with collaborative bags, combining leather, tweed, and denim. Shoulder bags in croc and nappa leather also made an appearance.
Loewe presented jackets and coats with dramatic dolman sleeves, accented with color on a black nappa base, paired with printed dresses.
A collection coordinating collaborative jackets, skirts, and denim was recently held at the Spanish Embassy in Tokyo. We interviewed Stuart, who was in Japan immediately after the show.
Heritage brand Loewe collaborates with Junya Watanabe! When we mentioned our surprise at the unexpected pairing, Stuart replied, "I'm surprised too. Yes, I chose Junya precisely because we are so different." He continued, "But we share a sincere approach to craftsmanship." He says he always reminds himself that this is the most important aspect of Loewe's collections.
"Collaborations are fun because they expand the boundaries and allow for playfulness."
Loewe's leather meets Junya's denim. A new world born from the fusion of disparate elements. We eagerly anticipate the second installment!
