Lamarck: Femininity with an Edge (Shinsuke Morishita)
The Spring/Summer 2017 collections have begun. This season, some brands are presenting a single collection that combines 'See now, Buy now' with both menswear and womenswear. The traditional format of collections is starting to change.
Although the Tokyo collections are typically presented in October, following London, Milan, and Paris, more brands than ever are showing from September this season, ahead of the rest of the world.
Lamarck (designer Shinsuke Morishita) is a brand that launched in 2011. It presents feminine collections using lace and supple materials. Its Spring/Summer 2017 collection, shown in August as the first in Tokyo, demonstrated a broader range of styling possibilities by incorporating items like denim and rider's jackets. The lustrous, randomly pleated skirts and sheer knits add volume and a modern feel. The brand showcases sophisticated adult styling with pieces like a versatile jumpsuit worn open at the chest and a python pencil skirt featuring a deep slit.
They have also participated in overseas collaborations and exhibitions, such as presenting a gown inspired by the Japanese juban (under-kimono) with an Italian print manufacturer in Milan.
Sophisticated Elegance with Hidden Craftsmanship—Support Surface (Nobuo Kenmoku)
Support Surface, designed by Nobuo Kenmoku, presented an elegant collection. Structured silhouettes created by design lines are balanced with draping to achieve a sense of volume. The blouses, fastened with drawstrings to be worn like a wrap, possess beautiful silhouettes from every angle. Layers of thin fabric highlight the cutting, allowing the garments to drape fluidly against the body. Coats made of sheer organza and perforated leather feel fresh. Bold use of lace and prints adds to the expression of adult elegance. This is a collection imbued with hidden craftsmanship.
