2017 Cruise Collection Unveiled in a Historic Venue
MIU MIU chose a mansion built in the mid-1800s, once home to Esther Lachmann, known as La Païva, a courtesan, as the setting for its 2017 Resort Collection presentation. The residence holds an intriguing legend: La Païva, after being ejected from a taxi by a hurried client on the Champs-Élysées, vowed to build her own home on that very spot. The building's ironic history and the colorful stage backdrop perfectly suit the multifaceted woman Miu Miu envisions.
The rooms of the Hôtel de la Païva, located on the Champs-Élysées, exude an extraordinary elegance and beauty with their exceptional ornamentation and details. Among the most famous features are the ceiling painted by Paul Baudry, who also created the ceiling painting for the lobby of the Garnier Palace, titled "The Day Chasing The Night," and a magnificent staircase carved from Algerian yellow onyx. It is said that La Païva enjoyed bathing in a Napoleon III-era bathtub made of yellow onyx, adorned with precious jewels, filled with milk, lime blossom, and champagne.
La Païva frequently hosted glamorous, decadent soirées in this luxurious mansion. However, after her death, the residence was acquired in 1904 by the "Travellers' Club," a gentlemen's club fond of travel and backgammon, which prohibited women from entering. It was only in the last decade that women were finally permitted entry, leading to the opening of the Miu Miu Club.
On July 3rd, the Hôtel de la Païva opened its doors as the "Miu Miu Club" for one night only. The Hôtel de la Païva on the Champs-Élysées was transformed into a club space, serving as an event venue showcasing films, restaurants, and the new 2017 Cruise Collection. The Miu Miu Club Paris
mixed historical and cultural elements, embodying the Miu Miu spirit of female empowerment while creating a new space for encountering the latest collection.
The event featured the first public screening of photographs and videos from the Fall/Winter 2016 collection's advertising campaign, and cuisine prepared by MARGOT HENDERSON, the owner-chef of Rochelle Canteen, was served.
Furthermore, the entertainment included a performance by the renowned string quartet Dirty Pretty Strings, and DJ sets from the likes of Kate Moss, former Clash bassist Paul Simonon, the three-girl band Plastiscines, and top stylist Katie Grand, all of whom energized the venue. Notable guests such as Chiara Ferragni and Marc Jacobs were in attendance. In addition to the exhibition of the new Cruise Collection, all eleven previous installments of Miu Miu's short film project "Women's Tales" were screened.
The Miu Miu Club is an event held in a temporary private club where guests can enjoy various content, including music and film, alongside fashion. It has previously been held in London, Shanghai, Los Angeles, and Macau. Perhaps the Miu Miu Club will make its appearance in Japan next.—.
