A Partnership Forged Over Many Years

Tokyo in April is in full cherry blossom bloom. The city is abuzz with visiting designers from overseas. It's been seven years since Aquilano.Rimondi debuted as a duo, and this marks their first visit to Japan together.

This interview took place during their whirlwind two-day stay in Tokyo. Tommaso Aquilano and Roberto Rimondi met at the Max Mara atelier, launched 6267 (Seidue Sette) in 2005, and have been presenting collections under the Aquilano.Rimondi name since 2009. They create elegant clothing characterized by structured silhouettes enhanced with artisanal embroidery and embellishments.

For Fall/Winter 2012, they presented opulent dresses and pantsuits combining satin jacquard with velvet.

"The collections present a strong image. For the pre-collections, we also introduce lines that expand on that image."

From this autumn, they will also be directing the Tod's Group brand Fay. The duo excels at couture-inspired garments. Their next ambition? The Paris collections? "Right now, we want to establish a solid foundation in Milan. But we also want to create clothes like haute couture."

When asked if they ever argue, working together constantly, they replied, "Every day!" Roberto playfully pulled Tommaso's ear, and the two shared a full smile.
