This Spring/Summer: Light, Modern, and Elegant
German designer Demna Gvasalia, who dominated headlines at the 2016 Spring/Summer Paris Collections, was appointed designer for Balenciaga after just one year at Paris Fashion Week. The 34-year-old's ability to transform familiar clothing into avant-garde pieces in an instant captivated many journalists. Sacai's rapid ascent also demands attention.

Sweet, Spicy… Elegantly. Sacai's Momentum Continues.
Sacai, now a regular at Paris Fashion Week, shows no signs of slowing down. "Sacai-esque" details, such as combinations of knit and woven fabrics, and cupro flare tops extending from knitwear, are becoming widespread.
While the Autumn/Winter collection felt a bit too heavy, this Spring/Summer is light, modern, and elegant.
Kitschy animal prints are modernized with punchy black trimmings and ribs. The print patterns overlap with lace, and gathering them creates new patterns. A white ribbon tape dress, joined horizontally, features ribbons that spill out and sway freely. Beneath it, a pink pleated dress with black lace peeking through is alluringly sexy.
Sweet, spicy, gentle, sharp – dresses layered in multiple dimensions create entirely different expressions depending on how they are worn. Bandana prints meet lace, Guatemalan-inspired borders are embroidered, blending the real with the feminine.
VETEMENTS Designer Demna Gvasalia
Just as VETEMENTS, which presented on the third day of the collections, began to generate buzz, the shocking news broke that VETEMENTS designer Demna Gvasalia had been appointed the new artistic director of Balenciaga. This is his third season debuting at Paris Fashion Week. Demna Gvasalia, a Georgian-German national, is 34 years old. His collections create new proportions by distorting familiar clothing. Nostalgic prints and bold uses of frills are striking. He is a designer to watch.
