Burberry Prorsum Delivers on Anticipation

Autumn has truly arrived. The Spring/Summer 2016 collection circuit has begun. I've been attending for 30 years now, and yet, the pre-show jitters still set in. The circuit, as always, kicks off in London. And in London, my greatest anticipation is always for Burberry Prorsum. As I approach the tent erected in Kensington Gardens, the familiar flutter of excitement begins.

Christopher Bailey: Where British Heritage Meets Modernity

This season's tent was an open, transparent design, befitting spring and summer. The Burberry faithful began to gather more than an hour before the show. A large, circular space for the orchestra was set up in the center of the venue, and then, the legendary singer Alison Moyet appeared. Her voice, resonating deeply within, enveloped us in the world of Burberry.

The first look was, surprisingly, black. A lace mini-dress was paired with a fluid silk trench coat and a backpack. Flat sandals with chain detailing added a modern touch. This season, as before, lace—both English and Swiss—was used abundantly. However, there was a touch of casualness, with mesh incorporated to temper the sweetness. The gold braid used for the paneling was a striking detail, mirroring the trim found on British military uniforms.

Designer Christopher Bailey masterfully blends British heritage with the latest fashion trends. The theme: 'Function Regalia,' embodying functional yet regal attire. Gold braid trims adorned both pea coats and biker jackets. Of particular note were the belt bags – small chain shoulder bags featuring trench coat-inspired belts and buckles. The burgundy suede offered a fresh, captivating hue. The collection, rendered in black and white with impeccable cleanliness, perfectly met my expectations and quelled my pre-show jitters.
