The Beauty of Color in Clothing, Revealed by Faint Light in Darkness

The 2015-16 Autumn/Winter Collection Expressing the Aesthetic of "Honoka"

The show venue was a dark space, with lanterns casting a faint glow lining the runway in an orderly fashion. As the show began, models would stop at several designated points of light.Introducing matohu's 2015-16 Autumn/Winter collection, where garments emit a delicate radiance when revealed from darkness into light.

Collection Theme: "Honoka"

With a concept of "creating new clothing that embodies Japanese aesthetics," matohu pursues the creation of appealing designs that resonate with the modern heart, expressing them through profound words, and building a community of like-minded individuals. The brand crafts a diverse and spiritually rich world through these three elements: design, words, and space.

For this collection, themed around "honoka," the focus is on the beauty of colors revealed by faint light in darkness. Honoka refers to an aesthetic sensibility where the mind and senses grasp a subtle presence, draw it near, and seek to feel it more intensely. Historically, Japanese people have keenly perceived and cherished "faint light," "faint scents," and "faint colors."

A Dark Space, Lights on the Runway

The 2015-16 Autumn/Winter season presents a collection that contemporarily embodies this uniquely Japanese aesthetic of "honoka" in fashion.

The textiles featured included weaves with lamé threads that seemed to faintly shimmer in the darkness, bonding fabrics where three-dimensional textures emerged in the dim light, voluminous cuts that defined silhouettes even in the gloom, and large, red diamond jacquards visible even in low light. As models clad in these garments slowly stopped under the runway lights, the unique qualities of the textiles softly sparkled.
