Eco-Candles to Discover
Aroma candles have truly become a part of Japanese lifestyle, haven't they?
The blended, rich fragrances are now commonplace. There are also unique candles with scents like Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, alongside champagne. Some candles can even be used for body care, melting at around 43 degrees Celsius, while others crackle with the sound of burning wood, like being by a fireplace. I enjoy a comfortable life surrounded by such a variety of candles.

For the gift season, or as a treat for yourself, embrace eco-friendly light.
Lately, I've been drawn to eco-friendly candles. Candles made from 100% high-quality soy wax, known for their minimal smoke and long burn time, are gaining popularity. Among them, the soy wax candles adorned with art by the Nordic textile designer Lotta Jansdotter are particularly charming!
These candles feature gentle, earth-toned designs inspired by the landscapes she has traveled, with motifs of plants and nature. They evoke a sense of calm. Each design is paired with a complementary scent, so it's fun to imagine the aroma that matches the artwork. Once you've finished burning them, the art glass can be repurposed to hold plants or other small items. They will be available for pre-sale in late November at the Beauty Apothecary on the second floor of Isetan Shinjuku Main Building.
Then there's "Muno Candela," which means "my candle" in Latvian. Born in 2007 in the Republic of Latvia, these innovative candles are decorated with hand-picked wild herbs. These are also made from 100% soy wax. I'd seen sets of dried herbs and candles wrapped together in LA, but decorating with actual wild plants in their natural form is a first for me! Each one is handmade, giving them a high degree of originality. I think I'd be delighted to receive one of these as a gift.
Finally, the AVEDA Holiday Soy Wax Candle was striking, housed in a vessel made from the cut base of a beer bottle. It's a warm, holiday-collection candle with sweet and spicy scents of certified organic cloves, vanilla, lavender, and vetiver.
I'm currently enjoying incorporating these candles into my daily life!
I believe eco-candles would make a welcome gift this holiday season.
