From Apparel to Lectures, Stimulating Adult Intellectual Curiosity
La Kagu, a curated store with the concept of "REVALUE"—finding value in "things of the past" and "things we want to cherish going forward"—has opened. The vast 291-tsubo space features women's fashion, lifestyle goods, and a cafe on the first floor, with men's fashion, a book space, furniture, and a lecture space on the second floor. The terrace will host events like the farmers market "La Kagu Market." Kengo Kuma & Associates handled the exterior design. The industrial, minimalist space makes full use of a book warehouse built in the 1960s.
Men's fashion, themed around American casual and heavy duty for the adult generation, will feature items chosen by Kota Tanaka, curator of menswear and interiors, focusing on "things that are fine as they are now, and things we want anew." For women's fashion, Momoyo Ando, who served as a buyer for major select shops, will curate "truly good things" from high-end to basic brands. A new brand, "nails," by Hideki Fukuzono, former designer of "wearabaouts," will also be featured.
Lifestyle goods are curated by stylist Miyoko Okao, offering tableware, cooking utensils, and more from around the world. Furniture includes Scandinavian vintage pieces, handpicked and led by Hans Wegner, sourced by "haruta," a renowned shop based in Ueda, Nagano Prefecture.
The cafe, with its pure white interior accented by wood, features a long table for an open atmosphere. Food curator Yoshika Majima of the popular Kamakura shop "LONGTRACK FOODS" and "Kodama," a charcuterie specialist, will manage operations, focusing on "MEAT & BREAD." They offer delicious, unpretentious dishes centered around homemade sausages and imported Italian and Spanish cured meats, along with bread. Coffee is roasted for "La Kagu" by Takashi Horiuchi of the esteemed Kamakura shop "Cafe Vivant Dimanche."
The book space utilizes the original bookshelves from the former warehouse, selling books selected by book director Takao Haba. The adjacent lecture space, "Soko," will host events centered around books, such as author talks, as well as workshops aligned with the seasons and holidays. Taking advantage of its Kagurazaka location, it will also feature rakugo performances. Junichi Kobayashi, who spent many years as an editor for a food culture magazine, will oversee "La Kagu Market," aiming to create a market that "feels like a magazine," allowing visitors to experience the true charm of food.
