Orthodox Yet Fresh──A Space Offering New Sensibilities

GANT began operations as a shirt factory in Connecticut, USA, in 1941. In 1949, it launched its own brand of shirts bearing the GANT name, quickly becoming known as the preferred shirt for Ivy League universities like Yale. The brand is also recognized for popularizing the button-down shirt in the US market.




GANT RUGGER, a second line inheriting GANT's DNA, was established in 2010 as a more refined, cool, and urban brand. In New York, it is recognized as a trendsetting brand in men's fashion, regularly participating in Fashion Week and frequently featured in men's fashion magazines. It has 12 flagship stores worldwide, including in New York, London, Stockholm, and Paris.


Recently opened in Jingumae, Tokyo, GANT RUGGER Harajuku is the brand's first flagship store in Asia. The Autumn/Winter 2014 collection, which marks the domestic launch, is inspired by "Green Fingers," a project by Satoshi Kawamoto, a New York-based garden designer. The brand appeals as a total lifestyle brand focusing on gardening, plants, flowers, and slow food, under the theme "Dressy But Messy."




The store interior is also a space filled with greenery. The clean yet warm interior, with its white tiled walls and vintage stools and cabinets, is inviting. The lineup is as comprehensive as one would expect from a flagship store. Based on a solid concept, it proposes orthodox yet distinctive styles, centered on shirts, knits, and jackets, creating new value for the heritage Ivy League brand.
