“We Wanted to Express Japanese Quality with Understated Designs”

Unlike the division of labor system in Sabae City, Fukui Prefecture, Japan's largest eyewear production center, Ena Gankyo Kogyo (Ena) in Nakatsugawa, Gifu Prefecture, is known for its integrated production in its own factory. Founded in 1947, the factory brand of this plastic frame manufacturer initially focused on export products before shifting to original domestic designs, establishing its era.

Now, Ena Gankyo Kogyo presents 'EnaLloid,' which infuses contemporary sensibilities into its classic designs, and 'ENA,' featuring modern, sophisticated aesthetics.

ENA pursues a more future-oriented design. The logo was designed by Simon Taylor of TOMATO.

As the person in charge of the revival stated, "We wanted to express Japanese quality with understated designs." The collection subtly incorporates a sense of "onko chishin" (learning from the past) in its details, such as using German flathead screws for the hinges.

The primary material used is acetate fabric, currently produced exclusively in Japan by Takiron. This material is characterized by its hardness and minimal deformation. All polishing is done by hand. Compared to the commonly used acetone (an organic compound), this process yields a superior luster and durability, and most importantly, a smoother wearing experience.

EnaLloid showcases traditional yet unique designs. The logo was designed by Rimart.

The Boston type from EnaLloid, already in stock, is priced at ¥24,000, while the ENA models, expected to arrive in November, start from ¥21,000.
