Masterpieces Reborn
There is little need to reiterate the significance of CAZAL as a brand. Perhaps due to its cult popularity in the hip-hop scene and the enduring adoration from celebrities globally, discussions often focus solely on its opulent designs. However, the design team, led by Kari Zalonis, also places importance on "ergonomics." They assert that comfort in wear holds meaning beyond mere aesthetic value. The "Made in Germany" ethos, which elevates practicality to the level of design, can be glimpsed even here.
What celebrities often wear conspicuously are vintage pieces, frequently hailed as "masterpieces." These collector's items are categorized by three-digit numbers, often discussed in relation to icons like RUN DMC's 607 or Pamela Anderson's 951. As if drawn by their allure, these CAZAL vintage frames are filled with novel designs that remain timeless. And the calls for their revival are incessant.
In response, CAZAL has initiated a project to shine a spotlight on its past masterpieces. Some are simply "reissued," while others are reconfigured by "cherry-picking" details from multiple models. The project introduced here falls into the latter category: the 881, which evolved with its front and temples derived from different models. Tracing the original vintage models in the archives reveals a renewed appreciation for the "novelty" of their details.
CAZAL 901

The 901 TARGA, from which the front design was adopted, appears to be a conventional teardrop at first glance, but its T-shaped metal bar and integrated nose pads assert its individuality.
CAZAL 904

The temple design motif was adopted from the 904.
This double-layered temple and brand logo motif would be repeated in the 946 as well.
CAZAL 946

In the 946, the "connection" between the double-layered temple lines and the brand logo takes on significant functional importance.
This evolves further into the 881.
