MIHARAYASUHIRO Eco Project

A Dream Beginning with Organic Cotton

Five years ago, SOSU MIHARAYASUHIRO began taking action on environmental issues. First, paper bags were abolished, and reusable nylon shopping bags were distributed to customers who spent over 30,000 yen. The next initiative in this "SOSU + Eco" series is the development of organic cotton innerwear. The first collection is now available in stores.

“Let’s start with what we can do.” Designer Yasuhiro Mihara on the “Eco Project”

Environmental problems and wealth disparity arise from a mismatch between the denominator and numerator of things. In the fashion industry, for example, cotton, a material with widespread industrial use, has an imbalanced supply and demand, with production overly reliant on third countries where cotton is grown. Instead of simply overlooking this, we thought about what could be done to solve the problem, and that's how the Eco Project began. If we continue to imbue plain underwear with new value and themes, I believe we will eventually see something emerge, and understand the meaning of our actions. While it's a very practical endeavor, it's also an experimental zone for a fashion brand, and I'm looking forward to seeing the reaction (statement).

Proof of Organic Cotton Use

Can You Imagine All Fashion Becoming Organic?

"SOSU + Eco" begins with a range of basic items. For the items that are closest to our skin and most universal, we believe in using high-quality materials. The first collection includes three styles in three colors for men and four styles in three colors for women. The materials used are meticulously sourced and produced entirely in Japan, from yarn to fabric to finished product. The organic cotton yarn is sourced from Avanti, a long-established company in the organic cotton industry, and all processes utilize materials where the producer's identity is known. Furthermore, the absence of a brand tag serves as a testament to our commitment to the environment.
SOSU aims to develop products using organic cotton for 5% of all MIHARAYASUHIRO products by 2010.

The socks created by fashion designer Yasuhiro Mihara prioritize functionality and natural materials. To achieve both moisture-wicking and quick-drying properties, cotton is blended with hemp. Using杢糸 (mokushi), a yarn with unevenly mixed colorful threads and neps, they achieved unique color variations and embroidered the brand logo on the heel to serve as a stylish accent. These socks are knitted on a 60-gauge knitting machine, resulting in a relaxed fit that conforms comfortably to the foot. These socks, sold exclusively on the web shopping site "LUMOREZ," will have a portion of their sales donated to welfare facilities in Tokyo through the Tokyo Charity Bank, operated by the Tokyo Council of Social Welfare, as per the intentions of Mihara and OPENERS.
