The World's First 100% Washed Paper Denim
Renowned for its breathability in summer and exceptional warmth in winter, “paper yarn” has long garnered attention as a lightweight fiber. KYUTEN has now released a 100% washed paper denim, achieving what was once considered technically impossible: the pre-dyeing of woven paper fabric.

Kabuki Collaboration Showcased in Paris During Fashion Week
KYUTEN began as a brand focused on denim remakes in 2006. Operating from three bases in Tokyo, Kyoto, and Paris, the company offers collections centered on denim for both men and women. Each item is crafted from high-quality materials and features delicate portraits that express the duality of human nature.
Since the Spring/Summer 2013 season, their standard jeans have been presented at a joint exhibition in Paris. Subsequently, the brand has showcased its collections for both the 'KYUTEN' wear line and the 'KYUTEN DENIM' line at Pitti Uomo, the world's largest fashion trade fair held in Italy, as well as within Japan.
The denim line's world-first, 100% washed paper jeans generated significant buzz. The unique textile, born from paper, made a profound impression on buyers from various European countries.
This entirely new denim is realized through the pre-dyeing of woven paper, a feat previously deemed technically impossible. Washed paper, a versatile material that offers warmth in winter and coolness through its breathability in summer, can be considered a crystallization of Japanese culture. It boasts a unique texture and lightness, develops a patina over time similar to cotton jeans, and is, of course, machine washable at home.
Furthermore, on June 24th (Tuesday), the brand will unveil its Spring/Summer 2015 collection in Paris, France, featuring their washed paper denim. Under the theme 'INDIGO + ELEGANCE,' the show will incorporate a performance of Kabuki dance using projection mapping. The presentation aims to showcase new possibilities within Japanese culture by linking the dry, cool, yet crisp texture of the paper fibers in the washed paper denim with the spirit of traditional Japanese masculinity.
