The long-awaited new model is the Boston-type "MOZU"

THINGLASS, a sunglasses brand specializing in glass lenses, recently collaborated with the eyewear boutique "blinc Gaienmae" and the souvenir brand "Shin-Yoshiwara." The new model "MOZU," an adaptation of the classic Boston type, is set to launch on January 17th.

Named after Osaka's prefectural bird, the Mockingbird
The sole sunglasses brand conveying the properties of glass lenses

THINGLASS launched in 2016 as a sunglasses brand. Brand director Tomoatsu Tsutsumi is also the third-generation head of "OMG," an optical manufacturer based in Osaka with 75 years of history. He started THINGLASS as a personal project to showcase the superior functionality of glass lenses. To highlight the beauty of the lenses, the frames feature a minimalist design, presenting sunglasses as functional tools.

The new model is named "MOZU." Inspired by the mockingbird, Osaka's prefectural bird, the design adopts the Boston type (also known as Panto), which emerged in the 1930s. While considered an anonymous design today, its wide peripheral vision made it ideal for driving and garnered immense popularity upon its release.

The frame design is handled by Ikuya Enomoto, who leads the design studio "ONLYGOODFORMS." With nearly 20 years of experience as a designer, he has worked on approximately 3,000 models for domestic and international brands, establishing himself as a highly respected eyewear designer in Japan.

The "MOZU" model leverages the strengths of the Boston type while ensuring a superb fit through meticulous structural calculations. The understated frame design integrates seamlessly with the face, complemented by the clear vision provided by the glass lenses. This creation is a testament to the collaboration between a master of lenses and a designer with profound knowledge of eyewear.

The "MOZU" will be available at blinc Gaienmae, blinc vase, and ESTNATION Roppongi Hills.
