The Collection is Based on Yoko Ono's 1969 Hand-Drawn Illustrations

In 1969, Yoko Ono presented John Lennon with a series of hand-drawn sketches titled “Fashion for Men” as a wedding gift. These notes, which served as the inspiration for the current “Fashion for Men” collection, depicted innovative designs for men's clothing, boots, headwear, underwear, and other accessories.

“John Lennon was so attractive, and that was the inspiration for creating ‘Fashion for Men.’ I felt it would be a great pity if I couldn’t make clothes that further emphasized his sexy physique. So I sketched a series that expressed my love for his attractive physique to the fullest, and gave it to him as a wedding present,” says Yoko Ono.

Forty-three years later, Opening Ceremony and Yoko Ono have revived selected designs from these sketches, creating an exclusive edition of apparel, footwear, and accessories, with only 52 pieces existing worldwide. Additionally, a limited run of sweatshirts and posters featuring Yoko Ono's artwork will be available.

“As a longtime admirer of Yoko Ono’s art, we have immense respect for her artistic vision, aesthetic, and intellect. The drawings she created for John Lennon in 1969 were a fantastic inspiration for a menswear line, and we are incredibly honored to have created such a beautiful collection with her,” says Humberto Leon, co-founder of Opening Ceremony.

Notable pieces from “Fashion for Men” include the wool suit “hand” (pictured above), featuring contrasting colors on the sleeves and hand prints on the crotch; a light blue, pink, and black cutout shirt made of mesh; an eyelet tank top and a shirt with cutouts; a bra with a lightbulb attachment; spandex supporters; knee pads adorned with Yoko Ono’s eye motif and the words “fly” and “go-stop”; and an acrylic glass board with a chrome alloy bell and the inscription “ring for your mommy piece” – a truly original lineup, as expected from Yoko Ono.

To commemorate the launch of this collection, a book has also been published. It features the artwork that inspired the collection, along with the lyrics to Yoko Ono's 1973 song “Anatano Te (Your Hands),” and includes a CD.
