Introducing "Elder_ARAOKAGANKYO" to Commemorate 77 Years

Acetate Eyewear with an Unprecedented Browline

Founded in April 1940 in Kanda, Tokyo, Araoka Glasses now operates the eyewear specialty stores "Blink Gaienmae" and "Blink Base." To commemorate its 77th anniversary, the company has collaborated with Space/Product Designer Koichi Futatsumata (KOICHI FUTATSUMATA STUDIO) to develop the original eyewear collection, "Elder_ARAOKAGANKYO."

For this anniversary project, Araoka Glasses delved into its history, tracing the journey of the company and its founder, Hideyoshi Araoka. The "browline" design, which significantly supported early sales and was a lifelong favorite of the founder, became the keyword for the project. As the name suggests, the browline design incorporates the shape of eyebrows into the eyewear. Today, it is recognized as a classic design that conveys an impression of intellect and intelligence.

During this process, the third-generation owner, Toshiyuki Araoka, felt a desire to "create a browline eyewear that bridges to the future of glasses," leading him to commission a design from Koichi Futatsumata (KOICHI FUTATSUMATA STUDIO), an internationally acclaimed designer in spatial and product design.

While browline designs typically combine metal and acetate materials, Futatsumata utilized only acetate, creating a new browline by altering the cross-sectional shapes of the upper and lower parts. The interior of the temples and the accompanying case feature a logo designed by Rikako Nagashima (village®), who is active across various genres with a focus on graphic design.

Available exclusively at Blink Gaienmae and Blink Base. We invite you to experience this pure creativity firsthand at our stores.
