GQ U.S. Announces 2012 Best New Menswear Designer in America


Gap x GQ Limited Collection Finally Arrives



This past February, GQ U.S. announced its sixth annual "Best New Menswear Designer in America." This year, the magazine's editor-in-chief Jim Nelson, creative director Jim Moore, and fashion editors served as judges, selecting six promising designers. These six were featured in the April 2012 issue of GQ U.S. and were given the opportunity to design a limited collection in collaboration with Gap.

Launching in Japan on Friday, September 28!



Launched in 2007, GQ U.S.'s "Best New Menswear Designer in America" aims to support the growth of emerging American menswear designers and promote their work to the world.

Editor-in-chief Jim Nelson commented, "The American menswear scene is increasingly filled with exceptional talent. New designers with exciting and brilliant creativity are constantly emerging." He added, "By partnering with Gap, we want to introduce their unique talents to a wider audience in America and around the world."

Inspired by old-school British style and the relaxed cool of Hollywood icons, his American classic collection is characterized by meticulous attention to detail.

Ian Velardi
Three words define his new menswear collection:Timeless, luxurious, and effortless.

Saturdays Surf NYC
The brand, designed by owners Morgan Collett, Josh Rosen, and Colin Tunstall, draws inspiration from surfing. It emphasizes clean design, traditional style, and authenticity through high-quality craftsmanship.

Mark McNairy New Amsterdam
Known for its trend-setting footwear, the clothing line offers updated takes on classic Ivy League and military-inspired basics.

Ovadia & Sons
Brooklyn-raised twin brothers Simon and Ariel Ovadia offer luxurious sportswear, tailored apparel, shoes, and accessories in a new classic style.

BLK DNM
Johan Lindberg's new contemporary luxury brand, inspired by downtown New York, with a focus on denim.

Regarding this limited collection, Mark Breitbard, Head of Merchandising for Gap North America, commented, "We are delighted to partner with GQ, known for its authority in men's fashion, and to provide these six selected designers with the opportunity to create capsule collections. This will result in a collection that offers a new interpretation of iconic menswear pieces."

Anticipation is high for the limited capsule collection, which incorporates each of the six designers' unique perspectives and innovative ideas.
