MENS FASHION WEEK 2012 SINGAPORE: Days 1 & 2



Held for the second time, "MENS FASHION WEEK 2012 SINGAPORE"—the first menswear-only fashion week in Asia—took place over five days from April 18th to 22nd at Marina Bay Sands.

Day 1: Runway Shows by SONGZIO and SPENCER HART



The second edition of Menswear Fashion Week Singapore (MFWS 2012) featured 19 brands representing countries worldwide. MFWS 2012 also explored the fusion of music and menswear, with its subtitle "M" derived from the initial letters of each.2FW. Japanese artists including Yusuke Uechi, Yuna Ito, and H ZETT M, along with South Korea's 8EIGHT, SE7EN, and SUNGHA JUNG & MEGAN LEE, performed mini-concerts at the venue.

"SONGZIO," which appeared on the first day, is the brand of South Korean designer Songzio, who has participated in Paris Fashion Week since 2007. The brand concept is "Aspiration," with design keywords described as "Retro school uniform collar, Boxy loose embossed texture."

Also featured on the first day was "SPENCER HART," designed by Nick Hart, who previously served as director for menswear brands such as Jil Sander, Kenzo, and Chester Barrie. This year, the brand participated under the banner "From Savile Row to Singapore" and received the Menswear Luxury Brand of the Year award.

Day 2: Five Emerging Korean Brands Take the Stage



The second day of MFWS 2012 showcased runway shows from five Korean designer brands active in Seoul, New York, and Europe: "BEYOND CLOSET," "D.GNAK," "GENERAL IDEA," "RESURRECTION," and "VANDALIST."

The designer for Beyond Closet is Ko Tae-yong. He launched the brand in 2007 and won the Grand Prize at the Korea Fashion Awards in 2011. The brand concept is "Reconstruction of Classic with wit and unique individuality."

D.GNAK was founded in 2006 by designer Kang Dong-jun. The brand concept is "Modern & Twisted Classic," and the brand has presented collections in London since Spring/Summer 2011. The theme for the Autumn/Winter collection shown this time was "Chaplin."

General Idea is a New York collection brand from Korea, launched in 2004 by Choi Bom-suk. In 2011, he was selected as Seoul City Top Designer.

The designer for Resurrection is Lee Ju-young. She established the brand in 2004 and has participated in Seoul Fashion Week since 2008.

Vandalist is a popular brand launched in Fall/Winter 2006 by designer Yang Hee-min.
